John Baker Q.C is chair of the Partnership at Ottenheimer Baker.
John has a diverse practice in the areas of mining, securities, banking and corporate commercial law. He also advises on construction, transportation and insolvency issues. John represents a large cross section of corporate and commercial interests that include banks, public companies, mining and exploration firms, real estate developers and major construction companies. His work has been recognized by his selection for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada (Banking Law, Corporate Law, Insolvency & Financial Restructuring and Real Estate Law), the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (Banking and Financial Institutions, Corporate Commercial Law) and The International Who’s Who of Mining Lawyers. Best Lawyers named him the St. John’s Banking Lawyer of the Year 2010 and recently as the St. John’s Corporate Lawyer of the Year 2011.
John’s history of corporate, community and volunteer directorships is considerable. From the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador to his eight year Chairmanship of the Dr. Charles R. Janeway Child Health Centre, John’s contributions have been recognized with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the Canadian Bar Association Award for Distinguished Public Service and by him being named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
